Panchayat

A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for managing the administrative affairs of Panchayati Raj institutions. As far as a Grama Panchayat is concerned, it is the primary committee that implements the decisions of the Grama Sabha and handles day-to-day administration. The Main Components of a Panchayat are President : The head of the Panchayat. They preside over meetings and supervise the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President : Discharges the duties of the President in their absence.Ward Members : Representatives elected from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees : Formed to streamline and ease the decision-making process of the Panchayat regarding matters such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

Kanjirappuzha, formerly known as Pottassery, has a history that dates back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by ancient burial urns and caves found in the region. The area was once part of the historic Valluvanad Kingdom and later came under British rule as part of the Malabar District of the Madras Presidency.
