History of Grama Panchayat
Kanjirappuzha, formerly known as Pottassery, has a history that dates back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by ancient burial urns and caves found in the region. The area was once part of the historic Valluvanad Kingdom and later came under British rule as part of the Malabar District of the Madras Presidency. Over the centuries, various communities migrated and settled in the fertile hill region, while indigenous tribal groups gradually retreated into the surrounding forests.
